Today at church a woman sat down by me and the first thing she said to me was, “Your calf muscles make me want to be a runner.”
Totally made my day! I have a thing for calf muscles and a thing for running, and if my calf muscles can inspire someone to run, well, what else could I ask for?!
After her comment, we had a short chit-chat about running. She hates it. I love it. She asked me why I do, I said it’s my break from life (aka kids) and it’s relaxing and energizing at the same time. I told her she would love it if she gave it a few months. I’ve seen it happen. My brother-in-law (not the 100-mile race runner) despised running. But in the past year he has ran a few of the crazy obstacle course runs (mud run, etc) and now is a fan of running and training.
I’ve yet to run a non-traditional race, and don’t really have any plans to. If I want to pay to run/jaunt through the mud, climb over hay bales, or get colored fluff thrown at me, I’ll go find a crazy farm around here to run through. But for a lot of people, running isn’t fun. Running is torture. Ask ALL of my volleyball players, they hate it. I’ve worn my running sucks shirt a few times to practice and they all love my shirt, but not for the same reasons I do . But, if running a crazy race and getting dirty and beat up is what you need to go for a run, by all means DO IT!
That was a little bit of a tangent. Back on subject, thumbs up for calf muscles and running!
